          What is the first virtue?

          الفضيلة التي تجمع الفضائل كلها هي المحبة، إذ يتعلق بها الناموس كله والأنبياء. ولكن أساس الفضائل جميعها، التي تبني عليها كل عمل صالح، فلاشك أنها فضيلة الإتضاع. لأن كل فضيلة غير مؤسسة علي الإتضاع يمكن أن تقود إلى البر الذاتي والمجد الباطل، ويهلك بها الإنسان.. حتى المحبة ذاتها التي هي أعظم الفضائل، إن لم تبني علي الإتضاع يمكن أن يهلك بها الإنسان، بل لا تسمي (محبة) بالمعني الدقيق الكامل للكلمة
